The 16th
While living in Paris with my uncle and his family, I often studied the views from the window of my bedroom. I looked out to see the many windows of residents of Paris. The shutters and the sills told stories of those who dwelled inside and I wondered about their lives as I drew the repeating rectangles and squares that punctuate the spaces of apartments after apartments. I have keep this drawing for a long time and it is created on the most excellent Punjabi paper that I purchased in graduate school at the Academy. I love Paris. It made me a more quiet person, I think because my eyes and heart were so engaged by the light and the shapes. I hope this drawing finds a space in your heart as well.
