Villanova University Commission

Commissioned Project for the President’s Residence, Gallagher Hall

This project was commissioned as part of the redesign of the President’s residence at Villanova University. I worked in close collaboration with the interior designer to create a series of ink and watercolor renderings depicting fourteen campus buildings, spanning different periods of the university’s architectural history.

Each drawing focused on the distinct character of a specific structure. Some reflected the modest, utilitarian forms common to Catholic academic buildings of the 1940s and 1950s, while others captured larger stone constructions recalling European architectural traditions. Newer and recently refreshed buildings were approached with the same attentiveness, allowing their contemporary qualities to sit in dialogue with the historic campus fabric.

These drawings were used to develop custom tapestries and wallpapers for Gallagher Hall, integrating the imagery directly into the interior environment. Following the completion of the project, the President’s Office acquired the original fourteen works, which are now installed and displayed throughout the residence.

This commission remains an important example of my interest in place, observation, and how drawing can function both as a standalone work and as part of a larger spatial experience.

The original fourteen drawings are held in the permanent collection of Villanova University and are installed in Gallagher Hall, the President’s residence.
