In the spring of 2018, my family received two diagnoses that shook me to the core. I knew I was going to lose someone I loved deeply—and soon. Closer, named after the Joy Division album, is the image that emerged as I poured my grief, fear, and prayers into paint.

This painting reflects my personal understanding of death—not as a locked, finite chamber, but as a transparent, calm passage. The classicizing mausoleum at its center is not a monument to loss, but a symbol of transition. In its quiet architecture, I found peace. I am forever with my Maker.
