Colosseo, 2010. Oil and ink on canvas, 2010, 53.5 x 38”
The Colosseum is as much a vision as it is a myth. Walking through this structure, this theatre of entertainment and death I feel overwhelmed by how very much the human race remains the same. Driven by the desire to stay alive and called forth by spectacle and scale, humans created this monument so that the age of Rome kept people and
movements in their place. My depiction highlights the glorious rebellion of the Catholic church, in its stripping of the marble from the exterior of the Colosseum to set the floors of the magnificent Basilica of St. Peter. I love it when a revenge story sparkles! My canvas blends ink and oil in an experimental way and I enjoyed how the drips of black tell the history of martyr’s blood. Enjoy history lovers! Collect!
