Forum I, watercolor, gouache and ink on paper, 30 x 22
Forum I, is the right-hand panel in my Forum Triptych, a minimalist original drawing of the Roman Forum that blends ancient architecture with expressive mark-making. This Rome artwork on Punjabi paper features a combined view of the Arch of Septimius Severus and the nearby Church of Saints Luca and Martina, two stunning structures from vastly different periods that appear to lean toward one another in quiet harmony. I created this piece after my first trip to Rome, working from memory and loosely referencing photographs. The contour drawing was my focus here—capturing the elegant lines where the dome of di Loreto seems to tilt gently toward the Arch. As the most minimal of the three, this panel celebrates form, flow, and the timeless beauty of Roman design.
