Roman Forum II, Green Doors, (Temple of Romulus), watercolor, gouache and ink on paper, 30 x 22

Green Doors is the second panel in my Forum Triptych, created with watercolor, conte, and ink on Punjabi paper. I made all three drawings together after my first trip to Rome, referencing a handful of photos and letting memory guide my hand. This piece focuses on the Temple of Romulus in the Roman Forum, specifically its remarkably preserved green-patinated bronze doors, which date back to the early 4th century AD. I was amazed that these doors still stand, their patina so vivid and bright. Today, they serve as the entrance to the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, but in this drawing, I wanted to honor their enduring beauty and the quiet strength of Roman architecture. Temple of Romulus blends ancient legacy with expressive mark-making.
