This literary-inspired oil painting is named for the daring painter in Virginia Woolf's, To The Lighthouse. Lily lives on the outside looking in on the celebrated Ramsay family. She is a foil for Mrs. Ramsay who gently guides and serves her family in the fashion of a loving woman of her time who is generous and seemingly content with her station. Lily is Woolf's future woman - concerned with her interior life and buried in the business of making a material thing of her ideas and thoughts, that is, a painting. Lily stole this book for me. I enjoy standing at intersection of literature and visual art and I offer this painting to Lily and to Mrs. Woolf.
