Paris street, study, oil on canvas, 18x12”

Paris Street (study) was created from a photograph I took while living in Paris—a city that, like many Americans, stole my heart on my very first visit. This smaller composition is a study for my larger Paris Street, Montmartre, and the palette of complementary colors allowed me to focus more on the structure of the street and perspective. Prussian blue line give way to the warm coral palette that probably comes from the brilliant tropical colors of Paul Gauguin. The emotional intensity of Fauvism has always fed my painting and pushes my ongoing love affair with Paris and my passion for expressive, daring color.
