Sacré Coeur in oil on canvas is my playful nod to American painter, Wayne Thiebaud whose luscious, cake-like textures comes across in this work. I marvel at Sacré-Coeur Cathedral in Paris because it fills me with awe every time I see it. Instead of its famous white marble, I chose to paint it in brilliant jewel tones, celebrating the rhythm of its architectural forms—the soft arches, the strong rectangles, and that beautiful dome I love so much. A monument of France depicted with the warmth and whimsy of a patisserie – a fitting pair for sure.
